A coach who can play
Max oversees program design, evaluations, and client progression for every athlete training at Scottsdale Golf Performance. He is also a Seattle Golf Fitness internship alumnus who came back to lead a facility, which is the pipeline working exactly as it was built to.
He earned his degree at Chico State in Kinesiology with a minor in Sport Performance, then spent time inside elite collegiate strength programs as an intern at Stanford and USC before interning with us in Seattle. He joined Seattle Golf Fitness full time after that, coaching golfers across every level and building the golf-specific side of his work.
From Seattle he went back to the Bay Area as Head Strength Coach at Perform for Golf, leading a team of golf performance coaches. The players he has worked with run from LPGA Hall of Famers to junior golfers at the top of their age groups, which is a wider spread than most coaches see in a career.
Max also plays off a 1 handicap, with clubhead speed reaching 130 mph. That is not a line on a resume, it’s a working advantage. When he tells you what a position feels like at speed, or why a drill is not transferring to the course, it comes from having been there rather than from having read about it.

WHAT I WORK ON
Speed you can repeat
Anyone can find one fast swing. I’m interested in the one you can produce on the seventeenth tee with a card in your pocket, which is a training problem rather than a technique one.
Better players
Low handicaps and professionals have less obvious room to improve, so the gains have to come from somewhere specific. Finding that is most of the job, and the evaluation is how we do it.
Translating gym to course
Plenty of golfers get stronger without getting better. I spend a lot of time on whether a change in the weight room is actually showing up in your numbers, and changing course if it isn’t.
